A group of volunteers are working with Vicki Adams to produce a limited edition run of 'Sissinghurst’ - a poem written by Vita Sackville-West (1930) and printed on the Minerva Press that Leonard and Virginia Woolf used for a number of years - as a hand typeset and letterpress printed reproduction of the original. Next week I will be taking the group on a special 'Bloomsbury Books' tour of Charleston and Monk's House.
On this one-day workshop, participants will learn how to hand-set and print from metal type using an Adana table-top press.
Working with a short piece of text, we’ll create an edition of letterpress prints and learn all the basic techniques needed to create your own pamphlets, artist’s books, small posters and broadsides.
We will cover case layout, typesetting, spacing, composition, lock-up, make-ready, inking, and printing. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience, we will explore versatile techniques and skills that can be incorporated with other printmaking and creative practices.
